Project Overview:

This kitchen was a complete renovation and update except for the hardwood flooring and basic footprint. The client favors stained wood cabinetry and wanted to move away from the granite look of 10 years ago. They liked their long island and wanted the cooktop removed for more room. Like most kitchen clients they had specific needs and wants including a gas cooktop on the perimeter, extra-long island, microwave in the island, and lots of storage, including one for small appliances to keep the countertops tidy. The cabinetry was done in a dark stain with the island base of a different color—an espresso opaque. Beautiful Matira Quartzite is the countertop. A creamy subway tile with the warbled look of handcraft is the backsplash, and the installer made a herringbone square of the tile over the range since the client wanted some accent, but subtle. The doors are a modified shaker style with some slight bevel detail on the edges and fronts. Upper cabinets are to the ceiling with crown molding all around. A cabinet style pantry replaced the old framed in pantry and was placed where the old “kitchen desk” was. Cabinet hardware is brushed nickel for the perimeter cabinets and a darker bronze for the island. A separate beverage cabinet stack was made for just around the corner in the eat-in area, to match the island. Gorgeous polished nickel open lantern pendants styled by Libby Langdon were added over the island. Faux cream leather stools were added too. A pretty floral in creams, caramels, and black is the valance over the window.
