Louisville is the largest city in Kentucky and is the US’ 28th most populous city. Louisville was founded in 1778, making it one of the oldest cities west of the Appalachian Mountains. The city was founded by George Rogers Clark and is named after France’s King Louis XVI. In 1850 it was the founding city of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, which eventually grew into a 6,000-mile system across 13 states. Today, some of the things Louisville is known includes being the home of the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Louisville Slugger baseball bats and for being UPS’s worldwide air hub.
