Sunny Sitting Room/Home Office

Project Overview:

The client wished to turn her pseudo home office/TV area adjacent to her kitchen and dining room into a sitting room that served as a work area plus relaxation area. She wanted a comfy chair/seating area, a place to work/a desk, some storage. Her requested aesthetic was a little bit of farmhouse style, even entertained the idea of a shiplap accent wall. A current built-in cabinet was much debated—to change out the surface and keep the dark wood? Paint and change the surface? Or remove completely and use a furniture piece instead. Although a shiplap wall was considered, the designer interested her client in a subtle wallcovering on all the walls as an impactful more timeless solution. The overall palette is neutral with green, one of her favorite colors. Starting with a hand-hooked rug in these colors to define the space, a soft, comfy club chair and ottoman in a performance fabric were added. A medium wood-stained writing desk, upholstered chair, and adjustable lamp make the perfect place for tasks. A beautiful painted and mirrored front console is a great piece for storage and displaying photos and the like. She decided to remove the dated built-in and use the space for an open and airy etagere of wood and metal, perfect for displaying pretty things as well as the printer! Green ceramic flower “plates”, a pair of abstract landscapes, and a fun, full faced alpaca, add finishing touches and whimsey to this very comfortable, drop spot of a room!
